Tao Te Ching Chapter 44

44th Chapter
Fame or your life, which one is more connected to your being?
Life and possession, which one do you give greater weight?
Which one gained or lost will harm you more?

Therefore, if you love fame too much, you will pay a price for it.
If you over accumulate wealth (and will not give away any), you will suffer heavy loss (in spirit).

Being content won’t lead to disgrace.
Knowing when to stop won’t lead to harm.
Then your spirit will last.

Implications from the Holy Books

O SON OF BEING!
With the hands of power I made thee and with the fingers of strength I created thee; and within thee have I placed the essence of My light. Be thou content with it and seek naught else, for My work is perfect and My command is binding. Question it not, nor have a doubt thereof. — Bahá’u’lláh, The Hidden Words, Arabic 12
