True  relationship with God

O my God, that Thou hast created me to know Thee and to worship Thee. I testify, at this moment, to my powerlessness and to Thy might, to my poverty and to Thy wealth. (~  Baha’i  prayer)

It is very hard to explain why it is so important to know about God and learn to love Him back. The mystery of the spirit of faith and true happiness won’t be revealed unless we know about Him and feel His Love and want to Love Him back. In other words, when we know how much God love us and are willing to love Him back with all our strength the secret of the spirit of faith will be clear to us. Even if we explore just a little bit of the mystery, the joy and happiness itself would make us want to discover more. When we recognize ourselves as having been created in such bountiful way, who would not want to accept His offer and be obedient under His law (in other words, submit ourselves to God). Before we know our God, it is like we are living in a dark room full of treasures, but we can not see them. In order to see the bountiful hidden treasure we need to kindle the spiritual light inside us. It requires effort to light the lamp and it also requires effort to keep the light shining. Knowing God allows us to kindle the light and loving God allows us to keep it lit. Wherefore, do thou love Me, that I may name thy name and fill thy soul with the spirit of life (~ Baha’u’llah Hidden words 4).

O SON OF MAN!  Veiled in My immemorial being and in the ancient eternity of My essence, I knew My love for thee; therefore I created thee, have engraved on thee Mine image and revealed to thee My beauty. (~ Baha’u’llah Hidden words 3)

O SON OF BEING! Love Me, that I may love thee. If thou lovest Me not, My love can in no wise reach thee. Know this, O servant. (~ Baha’u’llah Hidden words 5)

Before we try to emphasize God’s love as a loving Father. God’s Will is followed by the principle of “Love”. It can’t be called a relationship if only one person loves the other. Love needs to flow in both directions in a relationship. So how do we love Him back? Think about when we love our kids and how would we like to see them love us.  Our love for God is something like the relationship we wish to have with our kids. True love comes from our heart. It is generated from our faith in Him, trusting Him, relying on Him and clinging to Him. When we are willing to make an effort to think about and do what would make the other happy, then we are really in love. The way we love God can be like that too. Like a child putting trust in his parents for security, for comfort, tears and laughter with them. Putting our trust in God so we can be free from insecurity, clinging to Him for  comfort and walking close to Him when we are in difficulty.  Even when we feel happy, we share the joy with Him. We think about Him when we miss Him…… I am sure you have your way to love Him.  I hope you can experience His bountiful love soon.
